Star Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu's father P.V. Ramana on Sunday said that her daughter fought hard in the finals of women's singles at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, despite suffering an injury before the Games.

In Day 11 and the penultimate day of the Games, Nehwal defeated her compatriot P.V. Sindhu by straight games in a high-octane clash to seal a 21-18, 23-21 win in the all-Indian finals to clinch gold in the badminton competition.

"It was a great match. Of course, she could have won. Saina was senior to her and also she had a lack of experience. Hopefully, Sindhu can do better in the coming tournaments. She has not practised much as she suffered an ankle injury before the CWG," Ramana told ANI.

Sindhu's father also created the Rio Olympics silver medalist for improving the overall medal tally of India.

Speaking of Sindhu's mistakes committed during the game, Ramana added, "We saw her weak areas during the match. I will take it up to the academy to address them after she comes back. She will definitely come back strong and will go ahead. For now, she has to wait for winning a gold medal for some time."

With this, India's campaign at the 2018 Commonwealth Games came to an end. They have now won a total of 66 medals, 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze, bettering the tally of 64 medals the country won in Glasgow.

Hosts Australia and England occupy the top two spots in the medal tally with 198 and 136 medals respectively.
