Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha Shukla on Wednesday challenged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas to give a clarification on his alleged affair with a party volunteer if he was not at fault.

"We are not saying that Kumar Vishwas is wrong, but why is he not coming out over the matter. What is the problem in that? If you are correct and at no fault, why are you not coming to save the family life of a woman," said Shukla.

"I hope that Kumar Vishwas comes today and he should come so that the truth comes out," she added.

She also criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his statement in which he accused certain unnamed media houses of deliberately targeting the AAP and pleaded with them to spare the families of party leaders while pursuing their respective 'agendas'.

"Arvind Kejriwal does a lot of emotional drama. What happened yesterday was pre-planned and he will never be successful in his motives," she said.

Kejriwal had yesterday slammed the media for presenting untrue reports of Vishwas's alleged illicit relationship without having any proof.

Kejriwal described it as a stage-managed incident to malign his party and the government by a certain section of the media.

"Is this journalism? Without having any proof, you will ruin someone's family? I feel very sad, the Aam Aadmi Party is very sad. We don't have any option left with us. Hence, we have decided to keep quiet. We cannot answer anymore," said Kejriwal.

"If you have questions about our work and government, we will reply. But a shameful thing has been going on for the past couple of days and we don't have any answer for that. We will stay quiet on this subject and refrain answering from a few media houses," he added.

Vishwas has been accused of having a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He had unsuccessfully contested against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.

The woman in question, who chose not to be identified, has alleged that Vishwas's wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in a compromising position with the AAP leader. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on the social media.

Vishwas had, however, yesterday termed the woman's allegations as baseless and put the onus on the Delhi Police which he said did not take any action on her complaint.

Vishwas, who accused the media of twisting the entire story to malign the party's image, also said that the allegations were baseless and rival parties were out to defame him.

"The woman lodged complaint with four phone numbers against the accused, but the Delhi Police is taking no initiative. The state president of Bharatiya Janata Party is tweeting about this incident.

The BJP dirty mind department is thinking that it will post somebody's photo and tweet and the Delhi Police will not do anything. Then you run news in all channels about a leader. But all these will not ensurejustice to that woman," he said.
