Exploring new avenues to retain discerning viewers and to keep competition from privately-owned channels at bay, national cultural channel DD Bharati has announced plans to showcase a mosaic collection of regional movies.
The channel will also seek to revive archival and new programmes from its collection.
On November 8, a movie in Malayalam titled Athnakatha will be telecast. A week later, Marathi movie Ek Cup Chya will be shown. Telecast timings are 6.30 p.m., and repeated the next day at 2.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.
Premlal's directorial debut 'Athmakatha' narrates an extremely moving tale of a father-daughter duo.'Athmakatha' turns out to be a rich and imaginative tribute to the indomitable human spirit that strives and eventually survives.
"Ek Cup Chya" (A Cup of Tea), tells the story of Tukaram Sawant, a bus conductor who questions authorities using the Right to Information Act and its provisions when he is slammed with a huge electric bill.
"India is a faceless democracy. RTI has the ability to change that, and that is what we wanted to show in the film," national award winner Sumitra Bhave, said, who is one of the directors of the film.
At the beginning of the month, DD Bharati presented "The Threads of Life", a special show on threads and the art of weaving from different parts of India.
A very interesting documentary titled "Malgudi Dreams", a film on the life of noted author R.K.Narayana, will be aired today at 6 p.m. A repeat telecast will be done the next day at 2 a.m. and 10 p.m.
A documentary on puppetry titled "Born Again" will be shown on November 8.
Watch Ghulam Sheikh in Trailblazers on November 9 and Alyque Padamsee on November 16 and 17.
Then, there is "Maths Factor", which is being aired everyday at 5.30 p.m. since November 3. The programme is repeated the next day at 1.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m.
The Maths Factor is a 13-part series delving into the magic of mathematics. Each episode takes an interesting concept or area of mathematics and journeys through it using narratives, anecdotes, historical recreations and innovative problems to bring it alive. One the one side the episode on Network theory takes you through the seven bridges of Konigsberg, while the other episode on Probability kicks off with a game show.
Starting from November 8, DD Bharati will present "Gunijan", a dialogue with classical musicians, art critics, music historians and literateurs.
There are many other programmes that have exclusively been curated and re-presented.
