De Villiers claims record-breaking 149 off 44 balls was not part of 'nice, aggressive' plan

South Africa ODI team captain AB de Villiers has claimed that his record-breaking 149 off 44 balls against the West Indies in the second one-day at The Wanderers on Sunday was not part of the plan.

De Villiers claimed that it just came down to being his day, after becoming the fastest batsman to score a ton in ODI off just 31 deliveries.

De Villiers said that it definitely wasn't part of the plan, adding that the plan was to be nice and aggressive. He claimed that he sort of pushed to get David Miller in so he could take on Sulieman Benn's last few overs but added that coach Russell Domingo was adamant that he should bat at three so it paid off, Sport24 reported.

The skipper claimed that his thinking was to be nice and aggressive, adding that he had no pressure on him so lots of credit has to go to Rilee Rossouw and Hashim Amla for setting the foundation.

De Villiers claimed that he could free up nicely knowing that if he got out there were quite a few guys to come that could hit the ball. He claimed that his performance was up there amongst some of his best, but also played it down to a great Wanderers pitch and some luck.

The batsman said that it's all about the momentum, adding that one doesn't very often just come in and get momentum behind them right away, more often than not one has to work for it.
