De Villiers says has 'no regrets' after Proteas lose WC semifinal to Kiwis

South Africa cricket team captain AB de Villiers has no regrets after his team lost to New Zealand in their World Cup semifinal tie at Eden Park on Tuesday and is hoping that the people back home would be proud of them.

South Africa bowed out of cricket's pinnacle tournament as New Zealand chased down their 298-run target (D/L Method) with four wickets to spare at an electrifying Eden Park to reach the World Cup final for the first time.

Grant Elliott stole the show for New Zealand as he knocked an unbeaten 84 runs to guide Brendon McCullum's men to victory and they would be now be looking to lift their maiden World Cup trophy when they face either India or Australia, who would face each other in Thursday's semifinal tie, at Sydney Cricket Ground on March 29.

De Villiers, who knocked an unbeaten 65 in the match, said that it was an amazing game of cricket, adding that it was probably the most electric crowd he had ever heard in his life.

The skipper said that he believes the best team has come out on top, adding that they gave it their best and he has no regrets.

De Villiers said that they left it all out there, admitting that it is hurting and is going to take a while to recover.

He said that the worst part of all is that they don't play for themselves, adding that the bigger picture is for the people back home as they play for them.

De Villiers said that he hopes the fans back home could still be proud of them, adding that there have been great performances and he felt that they had a wonderful thing going.
