De Villiers says Oz umpire apologised for 'no-ball' blunder in World T20 game

South African batsman AB de Villiers has said that the Australian umpire, who committed a 'no-ball' blunder in their World Twenty20 win over England in Chittagong, has offered an apology for his actions.

Albie Morkel had England opener Alex Hales caught at point by JP Duminy, only for umpire Rod Tucker to call no-ball, despite replays clearly showing that Morkel had not over-stepped, leading to Hales eventually making 38 off 22 balls

According to Sport24, De Villiers, who led the team in absence of the suspended Faf du Plessis, said that he requested the umpire to call for a referral over his decision, to which Tucker refused, adding that he (De Villiers) only wanted to buy time and slow things because his teammates were quite upset over the decision.

However, De Villiers is happy that the decision did not result in defeat for South Africa, who booked their spot in the semi-finals with a three-run victory, adding that the umpire apologised to them afterwards.

South Africa, which is awaiting the results of the final round of matches to see which team they play in the semi-finals, will also have Du Plessis back as captain after his one-match suspension for maintaining a slow over-rate, the report added.
