South African cricketer Dean Elgar has said that his 'anger' at being left out of the one-day side fueled his form as he smashed a career-best first-class score of 268, and proved his desire to remain in the Test team.

Elgar, who scored 370 runs in the Proteas A Test series against Australia A and also smashed two recent tons against the domestic Chevrolet Warriors in pre-season warm-up games, may realise his dream of retaining his Test spot if veteran Hashim Amla misses the second Test against Pakistan due to his wife's impending delivery.

According to Sport24, Elgar, who has been branded as a 'so-called four-day specialist', said that his anger at being left out of the ODI side motivated him to be the best batsman on view in the A-series against India A and Australia A in June and July and prove his detractors wrong.

According to Elgar, although he had a reasonably slow start to the summer with regular 30s and 40s scores for Somerset in a six-week stint, he has a decent one-day record with an average of 37.91 in domestic games.
