Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday visited floods and landslide-hit Kodagu district in Karnataka and assured support for the restoration work.
Speaking at an event, the Defence Minister said, "I have come from Delhi as the restoration of some of the roads, buildings, water and electricity connections in Kodagu will be done by the army and the Air Force is trying to help as well in the relief operations."
Kodagu is one of the worst affected areas in Karnataka as torrential rains has left a huge trail of destruction with hundreds taking shelter in temples, churches and madrasas.
On August 21, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy urged the Centre to provide Rs 100 crore relief fund for the Kodagu district.
Similarly, former chief minister Siddaramaiah also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide necessary relief for the victims of the floods.
