Delhi Police review meeting with representatives from North East states

In an endeavor to reach out to the students and employees hailing from North Eastern States working in the national capital, the Delhi police conducted an interactive review meeting with all the representatives from the North East-student leaders, NGOs and employees associations-at Arunachal House here.

Delhi police has also co-opted Gorkhas who are living in Delhi by appointing three representatives from the Gorkhas.

Representatives from the North East Employees, delegation from Gurgaon and Noida on Saturday submitted their representations to the Secretary North East M.P forum Takam Sanjoy, Member of Lok Sabha who came as the chief Guest.

The North East Employees Association of Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad requested the MP to take up the matter with the Government of India and Governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for replicating the model security initiatives for the security of North East people by Delhi police,

This included appointment of chief coordinator, standing order procedure based on zero tolerance for any discrimination against North East people based on color, creed and language, appointment of representatives from different North-Eastern states giving them proper training for assisting the North Eastern citizens in distress, intensive sensitization of all ranks for the proper response to any grievances of North East people in Delhi, regular meetings with student leaders, representatives, church leaders and NGOs from North Eastern states.

Takam Sanjoy assured that the representations submitted by the delegation of Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad will be taken by the North East MP forum to the Central Government and state governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

He also informed that the North East MP forum is aware of the problems faced by the NE youths in metropolitan cities especially in Delhi and also said that it was due to the persistent manner in which the matter in which the matter was taken up that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued guidelines to all the states to ensure security of North East people in metropolitan cities.

He said that he was happy that Delhi police has taken the lead by putting in place the initiatives like Standard Operational Procedure, regular meetings, and appointment of chief coordinators for the security of North East people in Delhi.

He informed that how the North East MP forum had taken initiatives for ameliorating of the accommodation problem in Delhi.

"Due to constant persuasion, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University has agreed in principle to give the land for construction of a hostel for North Eastern students' inside the JNU campus," he said.

He also urged the student leaders, representatives; employee associations present in the meeting that they should be more sensitive to issues concerning the North East youth and should bring it to the notice of the concerned authority and with intimation to their respective representatives of Delhi police.

He also assured that he will personally take up the matter with the chief ministers of the North Eastern states so that they can give directions to the resident commissioners to ensure the welfare of the students and youths studying at metropolitan cities like Delhi.
