Delhi: Transport and Logistic summit promises infrastructure in North East

North Eastern delegates took part in the three-day integrated transport and logistics summit held in New Delhi.

The government has initiated major infrastructure developments in the Northeast region, hoping to make it a gateway to Southeast Asia. 34 memoranda of understanding were signed during the event.

The Centre has initiated several road and railway projects so far.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Inland Waterways of India earlier signed a tripartite agreement with the state government of Assam to dredge the riverbed of the Brahmaputra from Sadia in upper Assam to Dhubri in order to increase the number of navigational channels to the Chittagong port in Bangladesh.

Another MOU has been signed between National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and the Land Ports Authority of India and the Government of Manipur to develop Integrated Check posts, Land ports in Moreh in Manipur.

Around 3000 national and international delegates attended the summit which focused on multi-modal logistics parks, new developments in urban transportation, freight corridors for economic development, supply chain transformation- storage innovations, GST and role of digitization for decongestion and standards and skills for logistics.
