Congress leader Ambika Soni on Monday said that depriving the people of Delhi of a government for so long is not appropriate in a democracy.
"In Delhi, for so many months there has been no government. We say that whichever party has numbers should go to the LG and form the government. After AAP failed and expressed their inability in the capital, now this issue is being unnecessarily dragged. The people of Delhi are being deprived of a government. How far is this appropriate in a democracy?" said Soni.
She also said that whichever party has majority should stake claim to form the government in Delhi.
The Congress earlier in the day demanded fresh polls and immediate dissolution of the Delhi Assembly.
Congress leader Haroon Yusuf told the media that he has cleared his party's stand during the meeting with Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and urged him to conduct fresh polls in Delhi.
The BJP has so far kept silent on the contentious issue of government formation in Delhi.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has urged the Lieutenant Governor to disclose the BJP's official stand over government formation in view of the party's leaders meeting with him.
Delhi has been under President's Rule since February after Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down after 49 days in power.
The BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal coalition has 29 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The alliance had won 32 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year, but three BJP MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections. The AAP had won 28 seats in the polls.
