Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off eleven Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in Odisha's Bhubaneswar.
With an aim to provide healthcare in rural pockets, especially the inaccessible areas of the state, Pradhan plans to offer free primary services. The event took place yesterday.
These medical units will travel across villages in the state to ensure that proper medical facilities are provided to everyone in need.
Speaking to ANI, Pradhan said that the Gas (India) Limited (GAIL), the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) organisations have partnered with other companies.
"These mobile health vans will cover all the areas where gas pipelines have been installed. A CSR activity has been started to help the people of those areas. These mobile health vans are equipped with medical equipment and other facilities," he added.
Each MMU will have a qualified doctor, nurse, laboratory technician, pharmacist, essential medicines and diagnostic kit.
Pradhan further said that one unit can cover at least four to five villages in a day on a regular basis and can cater to the needs of 90 to 100 people on an average.
The unit can also function as a referral clinic and ambulance in emergencies.
The Union Minister himself boarded one of these vans to check the facilities they are equipped with.
