Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said the tender for the Dhaula Kuan (Delhi) to Manesar (Haryana) cable car project has been cleared.

Delivering a keynote address at Asian News International's (ANI) India Infracon 2018, Gadkari said the estimated cost presently is Rs. 50 crore per kilometer, and will be subsidized to Rs. 35 crore per kilometer, with the implementation of the Centre's Make in India initiative.

"There is currently a lot of traffic congestion on roads, which we want to de-clog. For the same, we have proposed a system of cable cars or ropeway transport. The tender for the first project, between Dhaula Kuan (Delhi) to Manesar (Haryana) has been cleared. The current cost is Rs. 50 crore and will come down to Rs. 35 crore once we Make in India," he said.

On the roadways front, Gadkari said 28 kilometers of roadways are being built per day, which is expected to be increased to 40 kilometers every day next year.

"We are expecting to inaugurate India's first express highway on March 15, which will be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The date for the second one has not yet been finalised. But once inaugurated, the time taken to travel from Delhi to Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) will be reduced to 40 minutes," the minister claimed.

Gadkari also assured complete transparency and zero corruption in the functioning of the ministry.
