Disillusionment with armed struggle leads four Maoists to surrender in Odisha

Four hardcore Maoists, including an area committee member and a lady surrendered before the Koraput police on Friday due to disillusionment with the futility of armed struggle.

"Their case is being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of the Government of Odisha. We are focusing more on naxal leadership now and would try that even more such cadres surrender before us," said Jaswant Kumar Jethwa, Inspector General of Police.

According to the police, one of the surrendered Maoists is Krishna Praska, who was recently elevated to Area committee member of the Koraput Srikakulam, divisional committee of CPI Maoist.

He had joined the party in the year 2010 as an armed cadre and was active in the area of Khilwa, Jhumuka, Kunjari and Bajraguda.

The second to surrender is Raju Hikaka, who was an important member of technical team of Andhra Odisha Boarder Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and had joined the CPI Maoist party in the year 2009.

He had undergone one month training in weapons and tactics the Supervision of Murli, another leader of AOBSZC.

"Raju hikoka used to carry a 303 rifle and Kosai Wateka Nirmala had joined the Maoist party in the year 2010. She was functioning as active cadre of Koraput Srikakulam divisional committee of CPI Maoist party and was leading the Jana Natya Mandali activity. She was an active accomplice of Maoist leader in Kumbhari area," said Jethwa.

The last one to surrender was Durjana Mandingi who had joined the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha in the year 2008-2009. Later in the year 2009 Durjana along with Purna Huluka of Basanaput had joined the CPI Maoist party. Durjana had under gone training in weapons and tactics as well as handling of explosives. All of the above cadres of the CPI Maoists carry a cash reward of Rupees one lakh each on their head.
