Top-order batsman Faf du Plessis has said that it will be a great honour for him to play 100th one-day international (ODI) for South Africa when his side take on Sri Lanka at the Wanderers on Saturday.
"It's obviously a great honour playing in your 100th (ODI) game - really excited about that and the pink day makes it even more special," Sport24 quoted du Plessis as saying.
On Wednesday, du Plessis powered the Proteas side to a massive 121-run win in the second ODI of the five-match series after the home side were reduced to 108-4 at Kingsmead.
The 32-year-old smashed seven boundaries and a six in his 105-run knock besides stitching a 117-run partnership with David Miller (117) for the fifth wicket to guide his side to a competitive total of 307.
By reaching the milestone, du Plessis will become the 21st South African to play in his 100th game.
When asked if he would have the same fate as Hashim Amla had on his 100th Test match, the 32-year-old said that he has been in good form and, therefore, hopes to emulate the former skipper.
"That would be nice. I'm playing well and I hope that's the case, but I'll just go and rest for a few days and prepare again. Hopefully the same thing can happen, but there are no guarantees," he added.
Amla made a return out of his poor run of form in grand style by scoring an unbeaten 132 during the opening day of his side's third Test against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg, which also marked his 100th Test.
The AB de Villiers-led side, which are currently leading 2-0 in the series, will don pink for the third ODI against Sri Lanka in support of breast cancer awareness.
