South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis has called on his side's inexperienced bowlers to display more disciplined and smarter performance in the second one-day international against touring England team at Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
The hosts' new-look pace attack showcased a wayward bowling performance in prime batting conditions in the opening match in Bloemfontein, which England won by 39 runs on Duckworth-Lewis Method on Wednesday.
Opening bowlers Chris Morris and Marchant de Lange bowled both sides of the wicket in their first spells and could not find the right length as England set a winning target of 400 for South Africa.
"Our bowlers need to be smarter. It's important to try and do that from the beginning and not wake up 10 or 15 overs into the game. The smarter team on the day will win the game," du Plessis was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Du Plessis admitted that the hosts had committed a lot of mistakes while fielding, adding that they gave away too many boundaries and that they were not as disciplined as they wanted to be.
Commenting on the inclusion of Kyle Abbott, the batting mainstay said that the pace bowler would bring a bit of consistency into the bowling department and insisted that returning bowler would be a bit more equipped than someone playing their first few games.
