Dubai is attempting to set a Guinness World Record of the longest gold chain with a 22 carat gold chain measuring five kilometres and weighing 180 kg.
Part of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) promotions, the world record attempt is being made by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group in association with four major jewellers in town - Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Siroya, Sky Jewellers and Jewel One, Gulf News reported.
Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, after announcing the project, said that this year being the 20th year of DSF, a major milestone in Dubai's calendar, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment wanted to do something big and unique and, going with the city's trend in creating world records, we came up with this idea of making the longest gold chain.
Around 70 workers are busy putting the chain together, working 10 hours a day, and the chain is expected be ready by the end of December.
