ECB chairman slams England's 5-0 Ashes loss as 'appalling, unacceptable'

The chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has reportedly slammed the team's 5-0 Ashes whitewash at the hands of Australia in the winter as 'appalling' and 'unacceptable'.

England's humiliation in Australia during the winter prompted a review of the Team England set-up overseen by managing director Paul Downton.

According to the BBC, ECB chairman Giles Clarke said the team had to move on from the furore surrounding the controversial decision to drop Kevin Pietersen and now had to focus on regaining its status as number one cricket nation in the world.

Stating that losing an Ashes series 5-0 away from home is not 'good and unacceptable', Clarke also said that he cannot stand losing anything, although he added that England has a 'sea change' in all the personnel involved in managing the team, which has injected a completely fresh and dynamic approach.

Clarke admitted that the players had become disconnected from supporters under former coach Andy Flower but that the atmosphere and culture of the team showed signs of significant improvement under replacement Peter Moores, which showed during England's 39-run victory in their opening ODI of the season against Scotland.
