Egypt's military chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi called on the public to give him a mandate to tackle violence and terrorism arousing across the country after Mohammed Morsi was ousted.
The Fox News reports that the Islamist supporters of Morsi had taken to the streets vowing to continue protests until he is reinstated.
According to the report, dozens have been killed in the clashes that have erupted between the Islamists and Morsi opponents.
This move comes in as sit-in camps have been set up by Morsi's supporters in Cairo and elsewhere, as well as a campaign against Islamic radicals have stepped up attacks on security forces in Sinai.
The Egyptian military claims that its goal is to set the country on a path to democracy, the report added.
Meanwhile, a coalition of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood and allied factions denounced his speech calling it an 'open invitation' to civil war.
