Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said the main focus of the upcoming elections will be anti-incumbency and referendum on the leadership.
"I believe that there will be only two characters in the coming elections. First, it will be an anti-incumbency election and second it will be a referendum on the leadership. And we will be ahead on both sides," he said.
Jaitley, who was speaking at National Workshop: Media, Social Media and Information Technology organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, said the opposition will try to change this agenda.
"Don't cooperate it in doing so. They will duck the leadership referendum and run away from it and they will give some ideological slogans to avoid the anti-incumbency factor," he added.
Jaitley, who is the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, claimed that the disillusioned people of the country are looking for a change.
"In Trichy and Rewari rallies, there was a huge crowd. This is a signal of change. These are not the ordinary crowds, disillusioned people are looking for a hope. So, the people have high expectations from us," he said.
The BJP is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the Congress-led UPA II Government is thrown out of power in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP, which has appointed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as it Prime Ministerial candidate for the next general elections, has been critical of the UPA's leadership and also raised fingers at its style of functioning.
Modi, who has begun addressing rallies throughout the country to ensure that the BJP achieves its goal, has charged the ruling Congress Party of indulging in massive corruption and playing divisive politics.
