An English cricket fan has won a whopping 50,000-pound prize at Trent Bridge on Wednesday after he won a challenge of hitting three stumps, then two stumps and then a single stump in three successive deliveries.

The stump challenge was set by sponsors Stowford Press Cider and was hosted by Radio 5 Live presenter Mark Chapman during the interval of England's third and final one-dayer with New Zealand, The Sun reports.

Chris Newell from Yorkshire wowed the 16,000-strong crowd with his spectacular deliveries and even drew the England squad out of their dressing room and onto their balcony with Graeme Swann leading the applause.

According to Newell, although he has not played properly for 20 years, he has regularly been watching his two sons, who play for county team Herefordshire, and picking up pointers from them.

Newell also joked that he might have a bit of late bowling legend Fred Trueman in him, as both of them are from Yorkshire, adding that he planned to spend his money on a family holiday in Australia in time for the Boxing Day Ashes Test in Melbourne.

On his bowling show, Newell said that with the first ball all he had just wanted to try and hit the stumps, following which he repeated his action with the second ball, adding that he was successful with the third ball mostly due to the crowd's cheering.

Newell's efforts led Michael Vaughan to joke on Twitter that Australia may now call the fan into their squad - a dig at the way the Aussies have fast-tracked Pakistan refugee Fawad Ahmed into contention for this summer's Ashes, the report added.
