Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has said that he fears a World Cup triumph is beyond England in Brazil, but glory in Russia four years later might be possible.

According to the BBC, the Swede, who led England to the quarterfinals in 2002 and 2006, said that he did not believe England could win the World Cup in Brazil.

He added that there were a lot of young players coming in and so it may be possible in Russia because it was also not easy to win a World Cup for a European team in South America.

Roy Hodgson's side secured qualification for Brazil by winning their group but only find themselves in the second pot of seeds for the 6 December draw for next summer's tournament, the report said.

They will have to make history if they are to repeat their solitary World Cup win of 1966, as no European side has ever won the competition in South America, the report added.

FA chairman Greg Dyke has also written off England's chances of winning next year and targeted success in the 2022 World Cup, the report further said.

However, Eriksson does see another run to the last eight for England, which would match his own best with them.
