The Prime Minister's Office today said that every fifth rural household in India has benefited from the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme.

It also tweeted that wages given under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), per day have almost doubled since the launch of the scheme.

Another tweet said, growth must be inclusive and must benefit the poor, especially in rural areas.

The MGNREGA aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage-employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
