Former Bahujan Samajwadi Party MLA Sarvesh Kumar Singh was shot dead on Friday by three unknown assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district.
According to television reports, the BSP leader was shot dead by three unknown gunmen outside his house.
Soon after he was shot dead, his supporters started protesting against the state government and also set several vehicles on fire in the city, reports added.
Police has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.
