A road adjacent to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium is to be renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Way in honour of the legendary manager who retired in May after nearly 27 years in charge.

According to Sport24, Ferguson, who is now a director at the Premier League club, would also be given the Honourary Freedom of the Borough of Trafford at a formal ceremony.

The 71-year-old Ferguson said that to have a part of Trafford carrying his name was truly humbling.

Another former United manager, the late Matt Busby, also has a street named after him close to the stadium, the report said.
