Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has said that left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz's ferocious bowling spell against Australia reminded him of the legendary cricketer Wasim Akram.
Riaz delivered one of the fearsome performances of the tournament against the co-hosts, scalping two crucial wickets and producing a bouncer barrage at Shane Watson.
However, a shoddy fielding display by Pakistan team subdued Riaz's terrific performance as they were knocked out of the tournament after losing by six-wickets to Australia in the quarterfinal on Friday.
Basit Ali said that Wahab bowled probably the best spell of this World Cup and brought back memories of Wasim Akram, adding that Pakistan would have won even with a score of 213 but important catches were dropped, the Express Tribune reported.
Ali added that if Watson's catch had been taken, Wahab would have wrapped up the whole batting because he was too hot to handle, insisting that there are certainly big positives for Pakistan from the competition.
