Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail has called for a complete overhaul in the current set-up of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for improving the team.
Stating that Pakistan cricket is suffering like 'hockey and squash' because of poor administration and lack of management, former chief selector said that there is a need of dedicated, honest and professionals people to run the affairs in the PCB, the Daily Times reports.
Calling for immediate drastic steps to put Pakistan cricket back on track, Sohail further said that it is also necessary to remove the mafia within the board, which has ruined cricket in the country, adding that Pakistan's poor performance in the ICC Champions Trophy was the impact of poor and inconsistent policies of the board.
Sohail also alleged that former Pakistan captains and other players like Intikhab Alam, Javed Miandad, Wasim Bari, Zakir Khan, Haroon Rasheed and Shafique Papa, who are holding key positions in the board, had done nothing for the game despite enjoying perks and heavy salaries.
Stating that he had left the PCB to save his pride and respect, Sohail further said that it had become very difficult for him to work in a poor system like the PCB.
Agreeing with Sohail, former Pakistan Test paceman Jalaluddin also lashed out at the poor policies and system, terming them as main causes of decline in Pakistani cricket, and expressed the hope that after the failures of top players, deserving players would be inducted in the team.
According to Jalaluddin, although Pakistan was lacking in the backup line, but deserving batsmen should be exposed to international cricket to develop them for future, adding that Pakistan cricket cannot be put on the track without proper development at the lower level.
