Ex-PCB boss Zaka Ashraf spent 'hundreds of millions of rupees' during 22-month tenure

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)chairman Zaka Ashraf reportedly spent hundreds of millions of rupees during his 22-month tenure on his lavish lifestyle, including travels around the world, as revealed by an internal audit of the board.

The PCB reportedly held an internal audit for the 22 months from October 2011 to May 2013 and found financial misspending and misappropriation collectively amounting to hundreds of millions of rupees during the former chairman's tenure.

According to The Nation, apart from spending such huge amount of money, it has been revealed that Ashraf had also misused powers at his disposal, particularly on his own tours as well as his family members, guests and security staff.

Ashraf reportedly also went against hiring, promotions and pay rises during his tenure as the PCB chairman.

Ashraf's guests, family and security staff reportedly cost the PCB 40 million-rupees during his domestic and foreign travel, while purchases of vehicles rose from 10 million-rupees under Ijaz Butt's full-three year term to 42 million-rupees in his 22 months.

It has also been reportedly revealed that in hiring of vehicles too, Ashraf completely disregarded rules as he hired a Toyota Prado 14 times for 4.27 million-rupees for the his comfort from a company that had not been prequalified, which is mandatory according to the PPRA rules.

The audit report also revealed that match tickets worth rupees 7,59,047 during the 2013-13 tour of India were given away without a mention of who they were meant for.

Similarly, during Ashraf's tenure nearly 2.5 million-rupees were spent on match tickets during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, and it is still unknown who the beneficiaries of the tickets were, the report added.
