Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince has confirmed that he will retire from cricket at the end of the current English county season.

Prince said he had decided to take this step after achieving the goal of getting Lancashire back up into Division One of the English County circuit.

Prince said he absolutely loved his time at Lancashire, Sport24 reported.

The 38-year-old made his Test debut against Australia and his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2002.

Prince has been the leading scorer for Lancashire in 2015 with over 2000 runs in all formats.

He had scored over 18000 runs in 286 first-class games, including 45 centuries and 89 fifties.

The player also wrote his name into the Lancashire's record books for sharing a 501-run partnership with Alviro Petersen during the county championship match against Glamorgan.
