As exiled Tibetans on Monday came together to celebrate their 53rd Democracy Day in Dharamsala, officials said that the occasion was a big achievement for their community.
"Absolutely, it's a great encouragement. For the past many years the Tibetan government-in-exile and the Tibetan people have been celebrating the Democracy day for the past 53 years. All over the world people are struggling to get a democracy, but we have a wonderful leader where his Holiness has given us a gift of democracy, which is a huge achievement for the Tibetan community," Tibetan welfare officer-in-exile Tenzin Sonam said.
The occasion was celebrated with Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, hoisting the Tibetan flag, followed by a cultural programme.
Exiled Tibetans on Monday (September 02) came together to celebrate their 53rd Democracy day in India's northern hill town of Dharamsala with much fervour.
Exiled Tibetan students, Buddhist monks and foreign tourists were in attendance to witness the festivities.
In 1960, Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama declared September 2 as democracy day after which exiled Tibetans elected their members of parliament and Prime Minister.
