Tibetans-in-exile living in Dharamsala on Friday celebrated the 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event was organised at the Kashag Secretariat and was attended by secretaries of the various departments of the Tibetan government in-exile. Religious and Cultural Minister of Tibetan government in-exile, Kalon Pema Chhinjor, praised Gandhi for his work and asked Tibetans to adopt his method in their struggle.
"We celebrate it every year, so today is a very happy day. We should remember Gandhi. A great person was born in this great country and he showed the path which the freedom movement born," said Chhinjor.
The Tibetans also hoisted the Indian tricolour and also sang the national anthem as well.
Meanwhile at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, special prayers were organised to pay homage to Gandhi.
It was from this ashram, Gandhi began the famous 1930 Dandi March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha.
Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, just five months after he led India to freedom from British rule through a non violent struggle.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee along with other leaders paid floral tribute at Gandhi's memorial in New Delhi.
