Exiled Tibetans observe Lord Buddha's birth anniversary in Dharamsala

Exiled Tibetans offered special prayers in Dharamsala on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.

Hundreds of Tibetan exiles, Buddhist monks and tourists gathered at the Tsuglag Khang Buddhist temple in Dharamsala to participate in the ten-day event.

A Tibetan-in-exile, Neema Yangki emphasised on the importance of these special prayers and said, "This time is the time of the Buddha. He was born during this time. He attained enlightenment during this time. He preached his teachings to the people and that's why this time is very important for the Buddhists."

Buddha Purnima falls on the full moon day.

It is believed that Buddha's wife Yashodara, his charioteer Channa and even his horse Kantaka, were born on the same day.

Lord Buddha's message inspires all follow the path of truth, peace and compassion and serve humanity to affirm our faith in the eternal values of non-violence and universal brotherhood.

The Dalai Lama, a foremost Buddhist leader denounces the Chinese rule in his Himalayan homeland.

China has defended its iron-fisted rule in Tibet, saying the remote region suffered from dire poverty, brutal exploitation and economic stagnation until 1950, when Communist troops "peacefully liberated" it.
