Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney believes that their FA Cup victory will serve as a morale booster to the team's younger players, who picked up their first trophy with the club.

United produced a resilient performance as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday .

Jubilant with the win, Rooney admitted that it was a pivotal moment for the Old Trafford club, especially because it was their first trophy since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

The 30-year-old striker hopes that their recent win would inspire the youngsters and that they would add much more trophies in their account in future, Sport24 reported.

The club, however, endured an otherwise troubled season, having finished the Premier League in the fifth place and made an early exit from the Champions League.

Reflecting on the same, Rooney admitted that his side were fallen below standards this season, insisting that there is a need for improvement going forward.
