FBI Director has no regrets over 'Hillary's emails'

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey has no regrets over his agency's investigation into emails related to former secretary of state Hillary Clinton's personal computer just days before the 2016 presidential election.

"It was a hard choice, I still believe in retrospect the right choice, as painful as it's been," Comey told the Senate Judiciary committee.

The Washington Post quoted Comey as telling to the Senate panel that the thought that he might have affected the 2016 election made him "mildly nauseous".

Senate Judiciary Committee was questioning Comey over his October 28 letter notifying lawmakers that more emails had been uncovered that were pertinent to the investigation into Clinton's private email server that she maintained while secretary of state.

Comey while testifying before the Senate panel, revealed that Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, had forwarded thousands of emails, including classified information, to her husband, Anthony Weiner.

Clinton has blamed Comey's letter and subsequent news coverage of the event for her defeat in the 2016 presidential election.

"Somehow, her emails were being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information, His then-spouse, Huma Abedin, appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to him for him to print out for her, so she could deliver them to the secretary of state," he said.

Describing Comey as the best thing that had ever happened to Hillary Clinton, President Donald Trump said that the former had given a free pass for many bad deeds.

Trump alleged that the Trump/Russia story was as an excuse used by the Democrats as justification for losing the election.

"FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds! The phony...Trump/Russia story was an excuse used by the Democrats as justification for losing the election. Perhaps Trump just ran a great campaign?" Trump tweeted.
