The 14-time Grand Slam champion overcame his German opponent 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to set up a fourth round clash with American John Isner.
Meanwhile, French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka also displayed a remarkable performance as he clinched 6-3, 7-6(7-5), 6-4 win over Belgian opponent Ruben Bemelmans to progress to the fourth round of the tournament.
