Swiss veteran Roger Federer is reportedly of the opinion that he can clinch a record eight Wimbledon title to ease the pain of his worst French Open loss in 10 years.
Federer, who slumped to a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 fourth round loss to 18th seeded Ernests Gulbis to mark his earliest Paris exit since 2004, insisted that he was already setting his sights on Wimbledon and clinching a record eighth title, rather than carrying out an investigation on his Roland Garros fallout.
According to Sport24, Federer's first five-set loss in his French Open career thwarted his hopes of playing in a record 42nd Grand Slam quarterfinal and 10th in a row at Roland Garros.
Federer said that despite the French Open fallout he does feel that another title at the All England Club is still within his grasp, adding that he thinks that when he is healthy, like he has been now for the last six to nine months, he thinks clearly and can also decide the outcome of the matches more than he could last year.
So, Federer, who won his seventh Wimbledon title in 2012, added that he is very excited about his chances for one of the four Majors currently this time.
