Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed that David Moyes had banned chips during his disastrous reign as the club boss and also made the squad undergo amateur preparation sessions that led to his downfall.
Moyes, who was relieved of his duties after just two thirds of a season at Old Trafford, endured a torrid time during his brief United tenure, and former defender Ferdinand has given an insight into how Moyes lost the dressing room in his new autobiography '#2sides'.
Speaking of the club's preparations before United's huge Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, Ferdinand said that on the morning of the game everything seemed wrong, Metro.co.uk reported.
The now-Queens Park Rangers centre back said that the United squad went to a public park to practise their set pieces and stuff, adding that it was bizarre and local people started coming from all over to watch them and take photos and videos.
Ferdinand also revealed how Moyes' sweeping changes to United traditions left the player destabilised and unhappy. He said that footballers are creatures of habit and for as long as he can remember at United, it was a ritual that they had low-fat chips the night before a game, adding that they loved their chips.
But, the defender wrote in his book, that Moyes came in and, after his first week, he said that they could not have chips any more. He stated that they were not eating badly and in fact, one would struggle to find a more professional bunch of players than the ones at United in the summer of 2013.
