Under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission', the Centre is reaching out to corporations, NGOs and the general public to address the nation's existing sanitation challenges, and in this regard, it is actively seeking technical, capacity strengthening and monitoring support.

Joining in this collaborative effort, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will be launching the "India Sanitation Coalition" on June 25 at the Federation House here.

Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Birender Singh will launch and address the India Sanitation Coalition at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Joshi, Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation, will also be joining the meeting.

The India Sanitation Coalition was first conceptualized at the end of 2013 and has been established to provide a platform for joint action, to find sustainable solutions for sanitation through dissemination of best practices, partnerships and collaboration and advocacy.

India Sanitation Coalition aims at bringing together all actors in the sanitation space to drive sustainable sanitation through a partnership mode. The work of the coalition will be carried out by four task forces composed of coalition members.

The objectives of the coalition will be two-fold:

1) Support and assist Government's objectives as set out for the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)

2) Facilitate the activities of practitioners

The composition of the coalition will include civil society groups, government, corporates, financial institutions, media, donors/ bilaterals/ multilaterals, experts and others.

Its vision is to enable and to support an ecosystem for sustainable sanitation, while its mission is to be an aggregator of knowledge and networks with nationwide outreach, focusing on models for achieving sustainable sanitation in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission and its goals.

Its purpose will be to bring organizations and individuals together to find sustainable solutions for sanitation through a platform for corporates, civil society groups, government, financial institutions, media, donors/ bilaterals/ multilaterals, experts etc.
