First-ever veterans' football tournament held in Guwahati

The first Veteran Football Championship started on Saturday in Guwahati.

The two-day event is being organized by United Brothers Club and the championship is being named as "Challenge Veteran Football", a new soccer competition for the veteran footballers to encourage young footballers and also pay respect those ex-players who had contributed to the game.

Altogether eight teams are taking part in the tournament, which is all about staying fit and healthy through playing this beautiful game.

The eight participating teams which are ASEBSC, Assam Police, Reserve Bank of India, Dakshin Bang Football Club, Gauhati Town Club, Latasil Soccer Club, Khanapara Football Club and host team United Brothers club.

The champion of the tournament will receive a cash award of Rs 50,000 while the runners up team will be richer by Rs 30,000. There are also prizes for best player, disciplined teams, best goalkeeper, and best defender.

Eminent journalist and writer Homen Borgohain attended the inaugural function as a chief guest.

Pabitra Gogoi, president of the Assam Sports Journalists Association and Anand Prakash Tiwari, City SSP was also present on this occasion.
