'Fit' Rooney calls on England squad to reprise Gazza's heroics at WC in Brazil

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has called on the England squad to repeat the heroics of his idol Paul Gascoigne, at Italia 90 and Euro 96, and become heroes at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Rooney said that it is the England squad's chance to make history for their country as one does not get many opportunities to do that.

According to the Mirror, Rooney, whose groin injury kept him out of United's final two Premier League matches, said that one always feels that this can be their tournament, as it has happened for him at the last two World Cups, but he added that he has prepared as well as he could for this summer's showdown in Brazil.

The England International said that the stage for the World Cup is set, adding that the squad just has to perform.

Rooney said that Roy Hodgson's side wants to create their own bit of history so that in years to come, people would look back at what they did.

The striker further added that it would be great if in years from now, people say that 'remember' England in 2014, because that would mean that the team has done really well or won the tournament.
