The Iranian coast guards have released five detained Indian fishermen.
These fishermen were working for a private export company at Qatar's capital city Doha, and were arrested by on September 22, for allegedly straying into the territorial waters of Iran.
They were lodged in a jail at Kish Island and their fishing trawler was confiscated. The fishermen were released upon intervention of the Indian embassy in Teheran and Doha.
In order to secure the five fishermen's release, the Qatar based company for which they used to work had to pay them a fine of Rs. 5.5 lakhs.
This would enable them to stay in Doha and continue to work for their fishing company in the Qatar Sea.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sri Lanka had also agreed to release the five Indian fishermen sentenced to death for smuggling drugs to the nation.
