The flood like situation in Assam, caused by incessant rainfall, has affected over three lakh people in more than 700 villages spread across 15 districts of the state.
A Low Flood Situation alert has reportedly been issued in parts of Karimganj, Dhubri, Sivsagar and Karimganj districts by the State Disaster Management Authority for the next 24 to 48 hours.
The worst affected districts in the state are Lakhimpur and Sonitpur, where more than 50,000 people have been rendered homeless.
In Jorhat, ferry services to nearby Majuli island were suspended due to rising water levels and strong currents in the river Brahmaputra.
The floods have submerged more than 8,000 hectares of land.
Flood waters have entered their houses forcing many to take shelter in government camps.
The state government has set up six temporary relief camps where people are being provided necessary food items.
