Former Black Cap Peter McGlashan has said that safety standards in cricket would change in the wake of Australian cricketer Philip Hughes' death following a head injury.
According to Stuff.co.nz, McGlashan was a pioneer of innovative safety equipment during his playing days, much of it he designed himself.
The English Cricket Board has already adopted new safety standards. McGlashan believes that those rules would soon be adopted in New Zealand and Australia.
McGlashan said that safety rules have to be changed in order to give the players and their families, peace of mind.
At the moment there is potential for a helmet to be available for sale in New Zealand that wouldn't be available for sale in the UK going into next year, said McGlashan.
