G D Goenka University collaborates with IBM

G D Goenka University(GDGU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM to offer specializations in the area of Cloud Computing and Virtualisation, Business Analytics and Optimisation, Mainframe Technology and Cyber Security and Forensics in B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program, to provide students with the needed skills and edge while seeking employment in the industry.

According to the NASSCOM HR survey, recruiters are looking for skill base trained in mobility, social media, cloud and big data. The top 5 tech skills in demand are: data scientists, cloud/virtualisation, mobile apps, platform engineering and user experience demand.

According to NASSCOM, recruitment based on pure technical skills has gone down drastically from 85 per cent in the period 2000-2006. In 2006-2011, about 65 per cent of people were employed based on technical skills and 22 per cent on domain skills and the balance on soft skills.

However, from 2011 onwards, hiring based on technical skills was down to 40 per cent, with domain skills being pegged equally important at 40 per cent and soft skills at 20 per cent.

As part of IBM's Innovation Centre for Education program, IBM will provide GDGUthe design and delivery of innovative curricula integrated with a Learning Management System. The students will be awarded the B.Tech degree by GDGU.

The students will be able to access online course material, be part of discussion forums and other online collaborative functionalities. IBM will be enabling the GDGUfaculty team on these courses, along with webinars and seminars by connecting subject matter experts from the industry.

GDGUis a new age university guided by the philosophy that new thinking in the areas of teaching, learning, research and training are pivotal to making leaders of tomorrow.

The program in association with IBM will be available for students of B.Tech. (CSE/ECE) starting from January 2016 as part of the curriculum. IBM will support GD Goenka University with curricula, an online eco-system platform for engagement as well as IBM experts as guest lecturers.

Dr. Raj Singh, Vice Chancellor, GD Goenka University said that these programs in cutting edge technologies will enhance the employability of the students. He was particularly happy that the faculty members will also be trained.

Phil Tasker, IBM Systems Education Program Director, World Wide University Program and Power Academic Initiative, IBM, said that there is a strong demand for skilled technology and trained management professionals. The IBM Innovation Center for Education initiative will equip the students, at GD Goenka University, to adapt to the dynamics in the industry and drive technology and business innovation.
