Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt recovered from a shaky start to win his 100m semi-final at the World Championships, while sprint rival Justin Gatlin stormed into the final after clocking an impressive 9.77 seconds on Sunday.
Bolt, the reigning world champion, stumbled around for the first few meters out of the blocks, but wrestled his way back to win the first semi-final in 9.96secs, the BBC reported.
Controversial American sprinter Gatlin, who has served two doping bans, continued his superb form of the season as he eased his way into the final after a sparkling start.
Meanwhile, Tyson Gay edged past Asafa Powell to win his semi-final round by clocking 9.96secs.
Billed as 'the battle for the soul of athletes', Bolt will take on his prospective nemesis Gatlin in the summit clash later in the day.
