Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday recalled the party's contribution during independence on its 130th Foundation Day.
"I am very happy on Congress' Foundation Day. Our political leaders during freedom struggle have seen many ups and downs," said Azad.
"An election won or loss is nothing as compared to what our past leaders did for the nation," he added.
He also praised Congress for not leaving the path of secularism and democracy and said that the party is for all the Indians not any particular religion.
Earlier in the day, the Congress marked its 130th Foundation Day at the All India Congress Committee headquarters, in the backdrop of the party's disappointing electoral performance.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi was present at the event along with other senior leaders.
The ceremony began with the rendition of the 'Vande Mataram' and will end with the National Anthem.
