Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs is reportedly set to be offered a coaching role at the club by new boss David Moyes so that he can use the popularity and experience of Giggs at Old Trafford for a smooth transition at the club.

Moyes, who officially takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson on July 1, wants Giggs to combine a playing and coaching role in what is expected to be the United legend's final season in the first-team, the Mirror reports.

The report further said that the veteran Giggs has signed a one-year extension to play on for United next season but is expected to play a peripheral role, with more emphasis on him helping out behind the scenes as Moyes settles in at Old Trafford.

The report further said that Moye views Giggs as an invaluable link to the United dressing-rooom, adding that the outgoing Everton boss is also considering approaching retired United midfielder Paul Scholes for a coaching job.

Giggs, who picked up his 13th Premier League winner's medal following United's latest title triumph, has completed his coaching badges and has expressed his readiness for a coaching job at the club under the aegis of Moyes.

Stating that he wanted to prepare himself for either a future as a coach or a manager, Giggs, who had played 940 times for United, said that it had been a tough time for him combining his playing sessions with his coaching lessons, although he had enjoyed the process.
