With an aim to discuss ever evolving reforms in the Indian legal sector and to come up with effective solutions, the Indian National Bar Association and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry organised a national summit on reforms required in the sector.

The day-long summit entailed a series of thought-provoking interactions on various opportunities and on-going challenges recently emerged with the advent of economic globalisation in the legal sector.

Eleven bar associations from across India along with eminent personalities like Dr. Satya Pal Singh, Minister of State for HRD (Higher Education), Suresh Chandra, Law Secretary, Sangeeta Saxena, Additional Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce and R S Suri, President Supreme Court Bar Association, took part in the event.

Law Secretary Suresh Chandra said,"The advent of FDI coupled with the growing effect of globalisation, is giving bigger opportunities to the Indian lawyers. And, with the evolution of information technology and advancement in the means of transport, there is a dire need to bring transformation in traditional techniques and reforms which have been practiced here for years. "

"It is crucial to expand the sphere of Indian legal services not only within the court system, but outside it as well. Furthermore, a robust mechanism is required for developing the legal system on the basis of reciprocity. Besides, there is also a need for comprehensive consultation with all stakeholders. This has to be gradual and in a calibrated manner, not a high inaugural activity," he added.
