Golf commentator offers public apology to Woods over 'cheating' comments

American golf ace Tiger Woods has reportedly received a public apology from a golf commentator, who accused him last week of cheating in four rules controversies in 2013.

In a column for a golf website, American golfer and commentator Brandel Chamblee awarded Woods an 'F' for his season, despite his five wins and cited four rules controversies in which Woods was involved during 2013, accusing the world number one of being a 'little cavalier with the rules'.

However, the Sydney Morning Herald reports that Chamblee apologised to Woods for his 'incited discourse', saying that he is not proud of this debate as golf is a gentleman's game, adding that comparing Woods' rule infractions to cheating went too far.

Although Chamblee maintained that he had not called Woods a cheat directly and insisted that he had not been forced to apologise for his comment, however, Woods' manager called his comments 'disgusting' and said they 'would have to give thought to legal action'.

Woods will be next seen playing Rory McIlroy in an 18-hole exhibition in China, with the report adding that McIlroy was due to tee off on Thursday in Shanghai in the BMW Masters alongside the top two in the European Order of Merit, Henrik Stenson and Graeme McDowell.
