Freedom fighter and personal secretary to Mahatma Gandhi V. Kalyanam on Tuesday asserted that almost all MLAs and MPs are criminals and dacoits.

Sharing what governance meant to the Father of the Nation, Kalyanam said that governance has been very in a very bad shape till now.

"We must have very good governance. Governance has been very bad till now. Governance have been slipped into the hands of dacoits and criminals. Almost all MLAs and MPs are criminals and dacoits. Gandhi wanted MPs and MLAs to draw a salary of 500rs. And now they are drawing nearly 2 lakhs, 3 lakhs plus free house, water, electricity, free air travels for entire family and also pension. Pensions start when profession ends," Kalyanam told ANI.

Accusing the Congress Party of 70 year misrule, he asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government is giving a good governance to the country or not.

"Somehow the BJP got rid of the Congress. But what about the BJP? Are they ruling well?" he asked.

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "honesty", the freedom fighter said, "So far the PM is good, he has not made any money. He is an honest man. He is not corrupt. Nehru was also not corrupt, he was also a good man but his policies were bad. Some people made money and he didn't stop and that is where the trouble started," he added.

Further talking about Gandhi's principals, Kalyanam, "In politics, Gandhi wanted to give up everything and then serve the people. You must become zero to work for the people and that is how it should be. You cannot live in a bungalow, ride in a limousine and serve the people."

He said that he had a good life under the Britishers than now.

"I want this government to go; I would rather invite the Britishers to come. I had a very good life under the Britishers," he added.
